The New England Aquarium is Temporarily Closed

Following the guidance of city and state officials, the Aquarium is temporarily closed to the public and has suspended all events and educational programming.

The Aquarium will reopen once the leadership team is confident any risk to the public has declined and in accordance with recommendations from the City of Boston and Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Any ticket reservations will be honored for later visits once the Aquarium reopens.

During our temporary closure, staff will continue to provide critical care for our 20,000 animals while practicing social distancing. The Aquarium plans ahead for the animals in its care. There is currently a surplus of essential food and medical supplies on hand to ensure the animals continue to thrive.

Also during this time, on-site staff who are caring for our animals will be providing updates on what is happening at the Aquarium. Each day at 11 a.m., we are posting video content on Facebook and YouTube that includes interviews with aquarists, animal feedings, and behind-the-scenes looks at animal care. We have also created a Virtual Visit webpage that features additional videos, at-home activities, and educational resources for both teachers and families. As a cultural institution with an educational focus, we are very excited to be able to fulfill our mission in this way.

Until we return, we encourage you to follow us on social media for updates on our animals, educational content, behind-the-scenes views, and a look at the Aquarium staff that are working hard to protect the blue planet. For future updates, please visit: https://www.neaq.org/visit/health-updates

Thank you for your continued support,
New England Aquarium
