Ways to help

Work For Peace And Justice

Our multi-generational School And Community Partnerships support the schools our students attend and endeavor to make their neighborhoods safer. We also run the B-PEACE For Jorge Campaign on behalf of the Diocese of Massachusetts and turn out hundreds of participants for the Louis D. Brown Mother's Day Walk For Peace. To find out how you can become involved in the campaign, please reach out and contact us.

Year-Round K-8 Programming

During the school year, volunteer as a tutor, group helper, or reading buddy. The time commitment is 2:30-6:00 p.m. We especially need volunteers when B-READY is in session but our college-aged volunteers are on break or gone for the summer. We also need occasional volunteers to: prepare a hearty snack or meal; share a talent, passion or skill; and host a Fun Friday Enrichment Day.

Teen Program Volunteer

We need writing tutors/coaches for our current teens and college-enrolled alumni. If you have the skills to teach writing at the high school/early college level. We always need more mentors -- friends, advocates, coaches, and listeners who provide our teens with: learning opportunities, a positive role model, social support and encouragement, advocacy and access to community resources, and unconditional friendship.

How you help From volunteering twice a week to once a year--and lots of options in between--there are many ways you can support our young people.
About us St. Stephen’s Youth Programs (SSYP) began in 1999 as a church’s effort to provide neighborhood elementary students with a safe place to go when school is not in session. Today, our successful, cost effective, out-of-school time programming serves 850 young people in grades K-12+. Our programs have a 19 -year track record of success. We are particularly effective in helping young people at greatest risk of dropping out of school to persevere and graduate. For the last three years, 98% of our seniors graduated from high school and the vast majority did so with a well-formulated plan for their post-graduation year.
