Our mission | Our mission is to raise awareness about the root causes of these life risks, to serve everyone with respect, integrity, and grace, to continue to learn, grow, and excel in our services, to be good stewards of the resources entrusted to us by our supporters, and to reflect the teachings of Jesus and the love of God in all we do. |

Ways to help | CleaningWe welcome hands to help with housekeeping! One of our main needs is help cleaning the actual beds for our shelter guests. This cleaning shift needs volunteers on weekdays from 1-4pm. If you have 2 hours in a week, we would love your help in one 2 hour shift or two 1 hour shifts during the work week. These times are flexible.Saturday Outreach & KitchenEvery Saturday morning, volunteers help prepare and pack meals in the kitchen which they later help distribute to the homeless at the Boston Common. Volunteers may also accept prayer requests and interact with the population. Volunteers also help to clean up and return outreach materials. Following Outreach, either the same outreach group or another batch of volunteers helps out in the kitchen.Front Desk AttendantFront desk volunteers track residents as they pass in and out of the building, answer phone calls, page clients and staff, and distribute materials to visitors seeking information. Training will be provided, but prior experience with homeless populations is a plus. We're looking for a commitment of at least one shift per week on either 8am-1pm or 1pm-4:30pm daily.DriverOur volunteer drivers have a valid driver’s license and an excellent driving record. We need help driving our cargo vans, picking up food donations from area restaurants, transferring and storing those donations, and other driving tasks as needed. Lifting up to 50 lbs. is a must. Volunteers have strong interpersonal skills, are self-motivated, and graceful in attitude and spirit. These shifts are between 4:30-6:30pm weekdays.Sunday Community MealSunday Community Meal is one of our most popular volunteer opportunities as it allows a group of 5-6 volunteers to take on full responsibility to arrange the food ingredients and prepare and serve food for about 175 homeless men and women at the Mission. Food can be prepared either at their preferred facility or at the Mission’s kitchen.LaundryEvery night our shelter guests use bedding and towels during their stay. Your help in washing, drying and folding is appreciated! Shift schedule: 8AM - 1PM.Office VolunteerIf you can work with a computer, file and scan documents, enter data, and do other general office duties, we would love your help! A regular commitment of 6-10 hours per week for several weeks would be ideal.Weekday Meal Programs/Kitchen ServicesThe Boston Rescue Mission provides three meals a day for our Residential Recovery guests and two meals for overnight shelter guests. Volunteers are needed to help prepare, setup and serve meals, wash dishes and clean-up after meals. Participating in meal programs is one of the most popular volunteer opportunities. Shift Schedule: 9am - 12pm or 3:30 - 6:30pmMaintenanceDue to the volume of clients and guests who are served by the Mission each year, the Kingston House requires a great deal of upkeep and repair. Maintenance volunteer duties may include deep (sometimes dirty) cleaning, painting, repairing, and home improvement. Volunteers particularly talented in specific areas such as electrical, plumbing, and mechanical are eagerly sought. The schedule for this opportunity is need-based. |

About us | From its founding in 1899, the Boston Rescue Mission has fed the hungry and housed the homeless. Today, we provide emergency overnight shelter with hot meals, toiletries, and bathroom and shower facilities to those in need in the Greater Boston area. We also provide residential recovery programs for women and men transitioning from homelessness to independent living; for adult men who have been sober for at least 30 days; and veterans who have been continuously homeless for more than a year. We are honored to be a source of inspiration and hope throughout the city to women and men in need. |
