Opportunities

Tutors/Teaching Assistants

Help an adult learn to read and speak English and use a computer. Catholic Charities El Centro del Cardenal located in Jamaica Plain seeks volunteer computer lab assistants, teaching assistants, and tutors for its daytime adult English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program.

Companions to the Aging

Volunteers are needed to spend one hour a week with an isolated senior in his/her home to bring companionship, empathy, and advocacy, play a game, do some crafts, or just enjoy a nice chat (no personal care involved). You’ll also learn about community services that might be helpful to him/her. Training and ongoing guidance provided. A one-year commitment to the program to help relationship-building and a reliable vehicle needed.
