Remote Literacy Volunteer Tutor - Training Provided

Tutoring is a wonderful opportunity to make a real and lasting difference in someone’s life and to change your own life in unexpected ways. South Shore Elder Services Meals on Wheels Driver

South Shore Elder Services is committed to providing quality services to elders, caregivers and community members. Assist as a Meals on Wheels driver- Our Nutrition Department delivers over 1,200 nutritious meals to homebound elders Monday-Friday. Volunteers are needed for 1 to 5 days a week, midmornings, 1-2 hours a day. A valid MA driver’s license and reliable vehicle are required. Initial training is required, with additional enrichment opportunities offered.

The Center is looking for a volunteer age 55+ to operate a multi-line phone system, meet and greet visitors, answer hotline calls and give referrals, participate in telephone crisis counseling, prepare and process client intake, assist with record keeping, and prepare materials for mailings.

Provide quality customer services to those needing our assistance; organize, sort or stock donated food items, including loading and unloading vans, freezers and shelves; prepare food bags for distribution to clients according to the individual need of each client and client family. South Shore Elder Services is looking for kitchen assistants help to bag lunches and count out meals for pick up by Meals on Wheels drivers at local meal sites. They also may help serve Congregate meals. Volunteers are needed for 1-2 hours on weekday mornings from 8am - 10am.

Sanger Center for Compassion Food Pantry Volunteer

The Center is looking for a volunteer 55+ to stock food pantry shelves (can be boxes up to 50 lbs), prepare food orders for delivery, receive and process food donations, sort donated items, assist with loading cars for deliveries, and keep work area tidy (may include light cleaning). Those unable to lift can supervise high school volunteers in the afternoons.

Nursing Home Ombudsman Volunteer

Volunteers age 55+ are needed to make weekly visits to a nursing home. As Ombudsmen, they meet with residents to educate them about their rights and advocate for them. An Ombudsman is asked to make a 1 year commitment. Initial training, in conjunction with the Mass State Ombudsman Program, requires 3 days. Monthly meetings are held for ongoing support and training. Fluency in one or more other languages (in addition to English) would be a real plus.

Interfaith Social Services Thrift Store Volunteer

Provide quality customer service by answering customer questions about the thrift store and the products; complete sales transactions; receive donations being dropped off and ensure that donor receipts are completed accurately; assist the Thrift Shop Manager with stocking, merchandising, pricing, cleaning, and inventory as needed. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday 12:30-3:30; Tuesday 12:30-7:00 (a minimum of one 3-hour shift per week)

Remote Friendly Visitor

You need to have a laptop or desk computer. Qualify to get professional trained by 'Cyber-Seniors' over a two month period and then be ready to make new friends over Zoom or Google Meet, to check in with once or twice a week. Free training in groups and individual tutoring on ANY computer software need included.

Mentor Inmates at Norfolk County

The Norfolk County Sheriff's Department seeks volunteers age 55+. As a mentor, you will have the opportunity to be placed in a one-on-one meetup to build a rapport and relationship that will be of great help to a pre-release inmate. Based on certain similarities and needs you are matched with a pre-release inmate. The "match meeting" let's you meet and talk for an hour to see if it is a good fit. If the match is a good fit, you continue meeting weekly for an hour at a time.

About us RSVP is affiliated with the national Senior Corps and sponsored locally by the Norfolk County Commissioners. Norfolk County RSVP Volunteer Program assists communities in providing elementary school reading, food distribution, veteran's programs, and more.
