Our mission Since 2017, RLC volunteer “RESCUERS” have rescued over 300,000 pounds of food and delivered it to human service agencies and homes in MA. 1/3 of this has been since the start of the pandemic and includes over 20,000 meals delivered directly to low-income homes in partnership with local schools and organizations. Sign up to volunteer individually or as a team; sporadically or on a recurring basis. We also have a limited number of Paid Rescuer Positions available (sign up to learn more).

Ways to help

Volunteer Food Rescuers help us transport food from our food donor partners to local homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and other human service agencies in our communities. Each food rescue event typically takes less than an hour. Food rescues may be completed by public transport, by personal vehicle, on foot and even by bicycle. With just an hour of your time, you can help reduce food waste and provide meals to those who need it most all around the country! Our food rescue events are scheduled to occur on a recurring, weekly basis, and take place morning, noon, and night, seven days a week. Whether it’s once-a-month, once-a-week, or once-a day we are in need of your help as we seek to provide a reliable food rescue service by fostering community connections to reduce food waste and food insecurity!

How you help Sign up and join our community of Food Rescuers to eliminate wasted food and achieve Food Justice:
About us 1 in 6 Massachusetts households are food insecure. About 40% of consumable food is being thrown out. That’s where Rescuing Leftover Cuisine steps in. Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit food rescue organization that links available food to those who need it at no cost to the recipient. Whether you are 9 or 99, on 2 feet, 2 wheels or 4 wheels, you can volunteer with RLCMA! An average Rescue Event takes about 40 minutes to pick up surplus food or meals prepared specifically for donation from businesses and deliver them to designated recipients using our Food Rescue App. Food Donors include restaurants, hotels, schools, caterers, businesses who host catered events, and others. Recipients include shelters, soup kitchens and other human service agencies who freely give food to those in need, and eligible households in partnership with local schools and organizations. No minimum time commitment is required and documentation for proof of volunteering is available upon request. Guidelines are in place to ensure zero person-to-person contact and you will not need to enter any buildings. Hop aboard to volunteer with Rescuing Leftover Cuisine Massachusetts!
