Ways to help | Individual Achievement Program TutorAdults enrolled in our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes are eligible to participate in the IAP, in which they can work one-on-one with a tutor to make progress toward their educational and professional goals. This work may include preparing a resume, applying to jobs, preparing for job interviews, exploring job training programs, and exploring continuing education opportunities such as taking the HiSET/GED or TABE test or enrolling in higher education.Guest Services VolunteerThis position involves answering all incoming phone calls using a remote access application called RingCentral. Guest Services is the first point of contact for clients, and it is essential that the volunteer is patient, courteous, professional, and welcoming to all callers. Ability to speak multiple languages is a plus for this position.Haitian Creole InterpreterOver the next eighteen months, Rian attorneys will be helping clients file applications for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and are in need of interpreters to assist them in doing so. Volunteers will be asked to provide their availability to better aid Rian’s attorneys in their efforts. All interpretation work will occur on weekdays during normal business hours. Currently there are immediate and ongoing opportunities available for volunteers with a fluency in oral interpretation and/or written translation for Haitian Creole.Volunteer Conversation Group HostRian Immigrant Center is currently recruiting volunteer conversation group hosts to support our immigrant student community and provide space for them to practice their English language skills. Volunteers are NOT required to be native English language speakers or US citizens. It is preferable that they are familiar with the language learning process and/or the experience of living in a foreign culture or within 2+ cultures simultaneously, as this promotes empathy for our students’ lived experience. |
