Ways to help | Nursing Home Ombudsman Program VolunteerVolunteers make weekly visits to a nursing home. They meet with residents to educate them about their rights and advocate for them. An Ombudsman is asked to make a 1 year commitment. Initial training, in conjunction with the Mass State Ombudsman Program requires 3 days.Friendly Visitor VolunteerVolunteers are matched with homebound elders for 1 hour weekly social visits. Friendly Visitors alleviate the isolation and loneliness many elders experience and can provide much needed respite for family caregivers. Friendly Visitors are asked to make a minimum 6 month commitment.Meals on Wheels VolunteerOur Nutrition Department delivers over 1,200 nutritious meals to homebound elders Monday-Friday. Dedicated volunteers package meals at local meal sites, and other volunteers deliver them to elders in the community.Money Management VolunteerVolunteers help elders with bill paying and budgeting tasks. The volunteer commits to 2-4 hours a month helping the elder in their home. Money Managers are asked to make a 1 year commitment. In conjunction with AARP guidelines, volunteers participate in a 3 hour initial training.Office Assistance VolunteerVolunteers support a variety of daily activities including dissemination of information, clerical help, collecting, collating, and updating data. Good communication, organizational, and computer skills are needed. Multi-lingual skills a plus. The time commitment is flexible during normal business hours Monday-Friday. |
