Our mission

Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive – at home, at school and at play. We supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities that have with communities that need.
Opportunities

The Giving Factory

A volunteer shift in The Giving Factory Warehouse involves hands-on processing of the donated goods that flow in on a regular basis. Each station in our warehouse includes inspecting, sorting, and packaging donations to ultimately be distributed to the children we serve.

Volunteer With Your Family

Our Giving Factory in Newton is one of the few places where entire families, including children as young as age five, can volunteer side-by-side making lasting family memories as they help make a real difference in the lives of others. When people inquire about volunteering at Cradles to Crayons, they’re amazed at how widely our services are needed. When they come here to help, they’re also amazed to actually be filling orders for specific children, and to know exactly how many children and families they helped that day.

The Giving Factory Prerequisites

Host a Drive: We ask all of our volunteer groups to host a product collection prior to their visit to help us further our mission. Pre-Register Your Group: It is crucial that all volunteers coming to your shift pre-register by using the link in the confirmation email received by the group leader.

We work with over 40,000 families, individuals, community groups and companies to serve over 140,000 children every year in Massachusetts. Your time is vital to getting children the everyday essentials they need.
About us

Childhood poverty is a serious nationwide issue. The kids we help don’t have shoes that fit. Or a coat warm enough to fend off winter winds. Or a backpack to carry their schoolbooks and supplies. Without these basics, they suffer. They don’t want to go to school. They have a hard time learning in school. They don’t go outside to play. They don’t feel valued. We provide kids with the essentials they need, free of charge so that they can succeed.
