Ways to help | Office AssistanceWhether you're a stay-at-home mom or the head of a corporate company, many people find volunteering fulfilling. The Salvation Army is in need of individuals who can handle a variety of administrative tasks ranging from collating papers to custodial work. Opportunities exist in all areas, including:Receptionist: excellent customer service, phone and interpersonal skills required.Clerical Work: help organize files, make copies, complete mailings and answer incoming calls.Custodial Work: clean facilities and help with minor maintenance and beautification projects.YouthSince its beginnings in 1865, The Salvation Army has always focused part of its work on helping children reach their full potential. Volunteer opportunities exist in the following areas:Teaching Assistants: tutor, teach curriculum and mentor children ages 2-7.After School Programs: help children build self-esteem, develop appropriate social behaviors and learn academic skills. Also, plan creative activities, play and work on arts and crafts projects.Teen Mentors: work with and challenge youth on issues that affect their decisions and lives. Plan social activities, coach sports, play games and music and help with academic work.SeniorsWhile many seniors may feel left behind by society, The Salvation Army makes every effort to engage them in meaningful and worthwhile programs. Your involvement in the following programs will change a life:League of Mercy: visit seniors on a monthly basis. Plan activities, play games and keep them company.Seniors Program Assistant: play games, converse and serve lunch to elderly citizens who utilize Salvation Army programs.Feeding ProgramsThe Salvation Army offers some type of food pantry at nearly all of its statewide locations, which offer a variety of volunteer opportunities, including:Food Bank Driver: twice a month drive into Boston and pick up food from the food bank and deliver/unload at Corps.Meals on Wheels: deliver more than 200 meals a day to disabled people and elderly citizens.Feeding Program Assistant: help prepare and serve lunch to the homeless and others in need.Food Pantry Stocker: stock and organize donated food items and help fill grocery orders.CorporationsGive back to your community by involving your company or group in a volunteer day. Team build, develop leadership skills and bond with your coworkers while touches the lives of others. |

About us | From its very beginnings in the East End of London in 1865, The Salvation Army has strived to serve suffering neighbors. Last year, with 82 cents of every donated dollar, the Army was able to provide over 1,100,000 meals and almost 300,000 nights of shelter. To over 100,000 children and youth, it provided camping experiences, after-school gatherings for tutoring, recreation and meals, and character-building programs. To thousands of individuals and families, it offered either a warm meal or food for their kitchen at home. |
