For a span of about six weeks in February and March, we collect buckets of sap from sugar maple trees in Concord and boil it into syrup, donated at Thanksgiving to families seeking hunger relief. Space is limited and the schedule is variable.

Join New England’s largest volunteer coastal monitoring program. Become a Baywatcher and help the Coalition test water in your community each summer. Some Baywatchers also assist with river herring monitoring in spring and stream flow monitoring throughout the year.

Volunteer as a reserve steward and help monitor our reserves in Acushnet, Fairhaven, Mattapoisett, and Wareham. Walk the grounds and trail networks weekly or monthly and notify us of any maintenance needs or vandalism. Training provided.

Groups who volunteer receive an educational, team-building experience while sorting and packing food for those in need. The Kids Who Care (KWC) program is a special volunteer opportunity that allows children as young as 10 years old to volunteer alongside family and friends, bagging and boxing food for children, seniors and families in need.

Volunteer to assist at event or participate in the Walk for HAWC

In the office, at the shelter, or during special events, HAWC can use all the hands it can get! HAWC offers many opportunities for workplace activism, but if you want your group to get involved in other ways, let us know!

We are always looking for volunteers to help with events, including our 5K and Breakfast for Hope, intern in the development office, assist with administrative tasks, or contribute in other ways.

Want to maintain the trails on your own time? Contact us and choose a trail (or section of trail), or ask for a suggestion. We’ll provide training – and furnish you with a tip sheet and report form. Adoption commitments are for a minimum of two years. Just let us know by e-mail each time…

You don’t need any experience to start maintaining the trails. You’ll be trained and be given tools too! Just bring your hands, gloves (if you have them), some water and a can-do attitude. We also have a family-friendly event to engage all ages in removing invasive species that threaten the forests.

Help sort through donated clothing and other items, shelve and hang clothing, freshen and shelve household items, and help with pricing too! We need volunteers at least 3 hours per day, one day per week. Any student under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent, teacher or mentor.
